How to Make Watermelon Juice

So let's talk about how to make the juice . it's so simple!


You only need three ingredients for this easy watermelon drink:

The lime juice brightens the fresh fruit flavor of this yummy drink, and the sugar intensifies the melon's sweetness. Of course, watermelons are naturally sweet, so you can leave out the sugar if you wish. Or replace it with honey or maple syrup . it's up to you.

By the way, I used half a watermelon for this recipe (which yielded about 12 cups chopped fruit). You can easily scale this recipe up or down, depending on how much melon you have on hand though.

To make the juice, combine the watermelon chunks, lime juice, and sugar (if using) in your blender. Then simply purée the melon until totally smooth. It should take about a minute. Give the juice a quick stir about half way through, only if needed.

If you prefer, you can strain the watermelon purée before serving with fine mesh strainer. I don't think that's really necessary though, since it's not overly pulpy.

I'd recommend chilling the watermelon before puréeing it. That way the juice is chilled and ready to drink, but you can serve it over ice, too.

    • 1/2 cup (packed about 3 ounces) light brown sugar or palm sugar
    • 1/2 cup soy sauce
    • 1/4 cup unseasoned rice vinegar
    • 3 scallions, thinly sliced
    • 6 garlic cloves, minced
    • 2 tablespoons minced peeled ginger (from one 2x1-inch piece)
    • 1 tablespoon chopped cilantro leaves
    • 1 tablespoon hot chili paste (such as sambal oelek)
    • 1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil
    • 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
    • 1/2 medium onion, sliced
    • 3 pounds (1-inch-thick) country-style pork ribs or bone-in pork chops
    • 2 tablespoons Chinese hot mustard powder
  2. Watermelon:
    • 1 teaspoon coriander seeds
    • 1/3 cup Champagne vinegar or white wine vinegar
    • 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
    • 1 tablespoon finely chopped shallot
    • 1 teaspoon honey
    • 1/2 cup olive oil
    • Kosher salt, freshly ground pepper
    • 5 cups coarsely chopped seedless watermelon (cut from half a 6- to 7-pound watermelon)
    • 4 cups Sun Gold or cherry tomatoes (about 1 1/4 pounds), halved
    • 1/4 cup cilantro leaves with tender stems plus more for garnish


  • 2 cups Watermelon , juice
  • 1 cup Tamarind Water
  • 3 tablespoons Arhar dal (Split Toor Dal)
  • 6 cloves Garlic , crushed
  • 1 teaspoon Rasam Powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Turmeric powder (Haldi)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Red Chilli powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Asafoetida (hing)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Whole Black Peppercorns , crushed
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin seeds (Jeera) , crushed
  • 2 teaspoons Ghee
  • 1/2 teaspoon Mustard seeds (Rai/ Kadugu)
  • 6 Curry leaves
  • Coriander (Dhania) Leaves , for garnishing
  • 1/2 Lemon , juice
  • Salt , to taste

I've made this recipe for many years since it was first published. Made it this weekend for a party and it was the hit of the afternoon. I don't understand other reviewers not liking it. I always get raves.

This one falls into the category of an "old reliable." I've made it again, and again, and AGAIN. It's always a hit. The combination of sweet and spicy never fails to delight those who have had it before and usually intrigues those who haven't. <p> I have a marked preference for the basil version over the cilantro I think it balances the chili and the cayenne better. <p> As a side note, I generally ball the melon, rather than cube it. It seems to "toss" more efficiently, and it looks great.

I like all the spices used in this recipe so I thought I would enjoy this, however, that was not the case. The spices over-power everything - very disappointing.

I have made this several times and it has been a hit at each party. It is delightfully different. And spicy - beware if you have Watermelon Purists. I usually prepare a small bowl of plain, cubed watermelon for those who cannot tolerate spicy foods.

I love both watermelon and cilantro, but the spices hide the taste of both. It's potentially a way to use a flavorless watermelon that you would otherwise toss. and effectively hides the cilantro taste for your friends who don't care for it. Not a keeper for me or my family.

Wonderfully different taste! tried it with basil first - GREAT and am making it again with cilantro. can't wait!

I found this recipe while looking for a watermelon salsa recipe. It's similar to watermelon salsa and is very unusual, easy and tasty. It is great with BBQ chicken. I will definitely make it again, and look forward to trying it with basil.

I first made this when it appeared in June ➓. Maybe the unusual combination of ingredients has kept others from trying it. The first time I used basil the second time, cilantro. Delicious both times. A great way to use watermelon that's not sweet enough to have for dessert. Just add a little sugar to the seasonings.

How to make Watermelon Juice

This is so so so easy! Just add all the ingredients to a blender and blend! You could make watermelon juice without a blender and use a juicer instead. But like to use a blender, I seem to get more out of the watermelon.

Add a few mint leaves and serve over a lot of ice!
